Giovanni Doria was born in Vibo Valentia, but now he lives in Catanzaro (Italy). He graduated brilliantly in classical Guitar at the Conservatory of Music “F. Torrefranca”, in Vibo Valentia in 1991.
He has achieved the academic diploma of second level, with the interpretative-composer course with the final mark of 110/110 at the Cosenza Conservatory of Music.
Chosen as the best student, he performed as a soloist, before graduating, with the Academy orchestra, performing the “Concierto de Aranjeuz”, by J. Rodrigo, directed by Josè Julian Lombana. He won the second prize (the first one was not given) at the National Competition “A. Poggioli” in Torre Annunziata, Naples (Italy).
He carries out concert activities as a soloist and in different chamber groups ( in a duet with the flute, with violin, with piano, with guitar, with soprano, with reciting voice, in a trio with flute and violin, in a guitar quartet , with string orchestra etc.).
He has performed in important halls and theatres in Italy and abroad ( “Stavenhagenhaus” - Hamburg, “Villa Rufolo” - Ravello, “Teatro Spazio Zero” - Rome, “Teatro Grandinetti” - Lamezia Terme, “Teatro Verdi” - Castel San Giovanni (Piacenza), “Teatro Siracusa” - Reggio Calabria etc,).
In 1996 he took part in the 8th international Festival “Musicarchitettura” in Gerace, he performed especially for professor Luc Montagner, the discoverer of the Aids Virus and in 1997 for the Nobel Prize Rita Levi Montalcini.

He has composed and performed the music of some theatre operas, such as “La signorina Julie” by A. Strindberg, staged by the company “Poiesis” of Rome, director L. Di Majo. He has recorded original pieces for classical guitar and piano on CDs for Yara Records.
Effective pupil of the High specialization Course kept by the master B. Battisti D'Amario, he has succeeded among the best pupils in the Master Class, directed by Master M. Colonna, who said about him: “He has impressioned me for his great technical potentialities, his temperament, the sensitiveness, and the energy with which he faces his performances.”
In December 1999 he performed in a tourneè in Germany (Hamburg and Monaco).
He has published pieces he himself has composed for guitar : “ Carillon”, “Fantasia Mediterranea” (homage to Maurizio Colonna), “Studio n°1”, “Studio n° 2”, “Poetique”, “Evocation”, “Danza Sensuale”, “Eclissi” for violin and guitar (published by “Casa Musicale Eco” di Monza - Italy).
